Can You Slow Cook Ribs In The Oven

The deep dark colour and BBQ taste of Southern style pork ribs, slow roasted in the oven, is hard to beat.

Ingredients:

1.5 kg American-style pork ribs
Salt
Pepper
2 teaspoons smoky paprika

Marinade

1 1/2 cups of water
3/4 cups BBQ sauce
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons molasses
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 cloves crushed garlic
2 teaspoons mustard powder

Step 1

Preheat oven to 160C. Season 1.5 kg American style pork ribs generously with salt, pepper and smoky paprika. Place ribs in a heavy-based baking dish, cover with foil and bake for 3 hours.

Step 2

Once the ribs are in the oven, make the marinade. Combine all the marinade ingredients in a heavy-based saucepan. Bring the mixture to boil over a medium high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 1 1/4 hours or until sauce has thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 3

You will know the ribs are cooked when a rib comes away easily when pulled. Remove ribs from the oven and brush liberally with sauce. Return to the oven and bake for a further 30 mins, turning and brushing with sauce at regular intervals.

Step 4

Remove from the oven and set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Place racks of ribs onto serving tray and spoon over a little extra sauce.

Serve the ribs with baked potatoes and cobs of buttered corn.
